Why choose an English-speaking rodent catcher?

A rat in your apartment is stressful enough. You should not also have to explain it in Hebrew. Dekel Gur, the owner, speaks English and talks to you directly — on the phone, on WhatsApp and on site.

  • The person you talk to is the person who comes. Dekel does the work himself. No call center, no subcontractor.
  • You understand every step. Where the rodent gets in, where the traps go, what needs sealing and why.
  • Clear price before the visit. The price is agreed on the phone, in English.
  • Written guarantee. If the rodent is not caught, we keep going until it is.

Send a photo or a short video on WhatsApp, in English, and get an answer from Dekel himself. HaLochdim handles rats and mice only — we don't catch snakes or other animals.

Is it a rat or a mouse?

You can usually tell by the droppings. Mouse droppings are small, 3–6 mm, like grains of rice. Rat droppings are bigger, 12–20 mm, and darker. A rat also leaves more signs than a mouse: grease marks along walls, chewed plastic, and noise in the ceiling at night.

Common signs:

  • Droppings behind the fridge, under the sink or in kitchen drawers.
  • Scratching or running sounds in the ceiling or walls at night.
  • Chewed food packages, cables or wooden edges.
  • Dark grease marks along the bottom of walls.

Not sure? Send a photo on WhatsApp to 054-8332211 and Dekel will tell you what it is.

Why do rats and mice get into Tel Aviv homes?

Tel Aviv is an old, dense city. Many buildings date from the 1930s to the 1960s, with cracks, old drains and open pipe gaps. Rats live in the sewer system and come up through toilets, drains and ground-floor gaps. Mice get in through gaps as small as a pencil.

The busiest areas are often near restaurants, markets and construction sites, and in older neighborhoods: the Old North, Florentin, Neve Tzedek, Jaffa and the area around the Carmel Market. Air-conditioning pipes, electrical cabinets and suspended (acoustic) ceilings are common entry routes. Rodents are active at night, so most people first hear them in the evening. Read more about rats in the ceiling or roof (in Hebrew).

How we get rid of rats and mice

We use only the methods we actually work with:

  1. Find the entry point. We look for droppings, chew marks and grease marks. In yards, we check rat burrows with the newspaper test: newspaper goes into the hole, and if it is pushed out the next day, the burrow is active.
  2. Trap without poison inside the home. Traps go in the right spots, against the wall, with peanut butter as bait.
  3. Locked bait stations, mainly outside. Yards, buildings and businesses get locked stations that children and pets cannot open. Inside a home, only when the problem and the household allow it.
  4. Seal the entry points. After the rodent is caught, we seal the gaps so it cannot come back.

How long does it take? A single rat or mouse is usually caught within 1–2 days. With more than one rodent, treatment takes up to two weeks.

What you can do meanwhile:

  • Close windows in the evening. Rodents are active at night.
  • After traps are set, keep all food in the fridge or in closed cabinets.
  • Don't use poison on your own, and don't block a hole before the rodent is caught.

Catching a rat on the spot

Sometimes the rat is right there — under the desk, in the bathroom, in the ceiling. Dekel is a professional catcher and can catch a rat on the spot when needed, with catch poles and tongs, without poison and without a mess.

This is common when a rat comes up through the toilet in a ground-floor apartment, or when a rodent is trapped in an office. We remove it, then find how it got in. More on a rat in the toilet (in Hebrew).

Real jobs from the field

Offices with a suspended ceiling, Holon (October 2026). Rodents were moving inside the acoustic ceiling above the offices. We placed traps between the cables. A rat was caught on the first day and a mouse two days later. Dekel found the entry points and told the management company what to seal; their contractor sealed it.

Supermarket branch, south Tel Aviv. A leading supermarket chain had mice inside a branch. We treated it and solved the problem. The chain is on monthly maintenance with locked bait stations around its branches. Businesses that handle food, like restaurants (in Hebrew), need this kind of ongoing protection.

Business ceiling, north Tel Aviv. A rat was living above the ceiling panels. We set traps through the ceiling hatch and caught it.
